Swim for Stroke

I'm taking part in the Swim for Stroke challenge!

May is stroke awareness month.

I have joined #TeamStroke for Swim for Stroke.

I’ve bid to swim 10miles -644 lengths to raise funds for Stroke  Association.

Why?

I want to support a charity that suddenly became closer to my heart than I ever wanted it to. On 9th January my Mum suffered a stroke at work. Luckily she was in the right place and her amazing team at QA got her treated in record time. Even with such quick access to treatment it was a life changing event. She spent a month in hospital learning to walk and move her arm again and  will have some lifelong side effects.

Secondly it’s the encouragement I need to get back in the pool after 6months out due to injury and a few curveball challenges from life.

Each day in May 240 more  people will face the life changing impact of a stroke. Fundraising support means Stroke Association can help people to rebuild their lives. Working with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care, support and access to vital services. It campaigns for better stroke care and funds research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

I will Update my blog post with distance covered and hope I make it the end before 31st May.

Any donations to this crazy idea of Mine gratefully received.

Training lengths

Friday 24th Apr
Took myself off for a swim yesterday evening managed a mile in 49mins. Makes the challenge feel a bit more achievable.

Here’s just some of the reasons I’m
Motivated to do this if I raise :
£80 could pay for a stroke survivor to attend a six-week computer course and learn vital communication information to support their recovery.

£217 could pay for the Stroke Helpline for one hour, helping the families of stroke survivors support their loved ones.
£300 could allow a befriending volunteer to work with a stroke survivor for up to a year. They might go with them on a regular bus journey until they feel confident enough to go on their own.

Anything I raise will ultimately help a stroke patient and their families navigate a life changing event.

Thanks for the donations so far it’s certainly motivated me to get the challenge done
