I'm taking part in the Great North Run as part of #TeamStroke
I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run.
There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
Having suffered a Stroke in June 2023 I was indebted to the care I received from the Stroke Unit at Cumberland Royal Infirmary. From having no use of the right side of my body, the specialist treatment they gave allowed me to be back on my feet very quickly and set me on my way to what has been a fairly full recovery.
I’ve been much luckier than so many others and started to support the Stroke Association and the tireless work they do not only to help stroke victims but to develop technology to help identify stroke symptoms much earlier and support the care given in hospitals.
I have first hand experience of how this amazing work can help and it is a privilege to be able to run on their behalf
