Why I'm doing this
I'm running the London Marathon for the Stroke Association in memory of my dad, Nick, who died on March 29th 2024, five days after suffering a stroke. His death, aged 76, was very sudden and all my family were in complete shock. Just the weekend before we'd been celebrating my mum's birthday.
Dad was a teacher in primary schools in east London for more than 30 years and from the age of eight he took me to cross-country runs and races all over the city (including a memorable one on Parliament Hill where I lost my shoe in the mud and he had to trace the course to find it). So running London and fundraising for the Stroke Association is my way of marking his life and thanking him for everything he did.
That's my story but of course thousands of others have similar ones. Someone has a stroke in the UK every five minutes and the Stroke Association supports people to rebuild their lives. They provide life-changing services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into treatments. Every donation helps with this work and I'd be very grateful for whatever you're able to spare.
Thank you!
Tom x
