I'm taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon as part of #TeamStroke
I joined #TeamStroke for the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2025 as my opportunity to give something back.
In November 2022, my husband suffered a stroke at the age of just 53 years; it came completely out of the blue.
The Stroke Association were there from the start and have been instrumental in his recovery; opening so many pathways to help with not just the physical disabilities, but also his mental health.
It goes without saying that the physio and exercise classes have been vital in his physical recovery but probably one of the enduring legacies from the Stroke Association is 'The Stroke Cafe'. It is not based in any hospital or clinic setting but in a local cafe, and twice a month it gives him the opportunity to meet and chat with other stroke survivors, people who really understand.
There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
