I'm taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon 2026 as part of #TeamStroke
I'm joining #TeamStroke for the Cardiff Half Marathon 2026! 💜
My mum suffered a stroke in May 2019, which was one of the most frightening moments of our lives. We were incredibly lucky, and her recovery was nothing short of remarkable. So much so that, day-to-day, she’s able to live a life almost identical to the one she had before her stroke.
But I’m acutely aware that not everyone has the same outcome. For so many stroke survivors and their families, the road to recovery is longer, harder, and much less certain. The Stroke Association supports survivors and their families every step of the way, and funds vital research into prevention, treatment, and recovery. We feel so fortunate that my mum had the recovery she did, but know that had we ever needed that support, we’d have had somewhere to turn.
I’m really excited to take this on (putting my 2026 half marathon count up to three!) and I’m really proud to be running for The Stroke Association 💜

I am so touched that you are running this for the Stroke Association. I did indeed recover in a way that I am so grateful for. I am able to go on and live my day-to-day life with my friends and family in a way that many people, including some I know personally, have not been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to do. The support and the research work of the Stroke Association is so valuable and important. Thank you Sophie. Love Mum xxx
