106km for Stroke Recovery

Over the last couple of years, a few members of my family have suffered strokes and have had to go through the process of recovery. More recently, one of them has suffered another stroke.

Seeing people close to me dealing with the effects of stroke has made me want to do something positive.

So on 12 December, I’ll be taking on the Wookies & Chewie 106km Audax challenge, cycling around Bristol and across the Mendips to raise money for the Stroke Association.

I’ve done long-distance cycling in the past, but I’ve barely ridden this year and have also been working my way back from lower-back issues. I’m giving myself around 11 weeks to go from almost no recent cycling to being ready to complete 106km in the middle of December.

Of course, that challenge is very different from recovering from a stroke. But part of the reason I’m doing it is for my family: while they continue working through their own recovery, I want them to know that I’m taking on something difficult too, thinking of them along the way and turning that challenge into something that can help other people affected by stroke.

The money raised will support the Stroke Association and its work helping stroke survivors and their families rebuild their lives.

If you’re able to donate, however much, I’d be incredibly grateful.

106km. 11 weeks to get ready. One very good reason to finish it.
