I'm taking part in the Stride for Stroke challenge!
On 15th December I took a call, while half asleep, from my mum to say they were at A&E because they thought my Dad had had a stroke.
In 2012 my Dad had a TIA and after some investigations it became clear he has had a series of strokes fairly recently and 2 very recently (15/12/23).
Thankfully my dad is back home being looked after by my mum, an amazing community team and us!
I can’t begin to imagine what it feels like for your body to not do what you expect it to do. My dad will tell anyone who will listen that he couldn’t get his ‘ready salted’ crisps out of the bag and that his legs were like knitting needles.
It’s not clear yet how long recovery will take or if everything will go back to how it was before but I will forever be amazed by the human body and how it can heal itself in some circumstances.
I joined #TeamStroke for Stride for Stroke. I will be taking one step for each of the 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK. The 1.3 million steps challenge works out at 10,000 steps a day for 130 days.
Stroke Association is here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
