TCS London Marathon 2024

I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke

So why am I raising funds for Stroke Association; this is why:
Firstly, let me be very up front with you, this will be my LAST marathon, I will be 57 when I run this marathon, it's time to hang up my running shoes.........................maybe.


So, here's why I'm raising funds for Stroke Association; as some of you will be aware my wife of 31 years, suffered three stokes during a 6-month period in 2022 and also a number of brain related episodes (mini-strokes) during the same period. She is now recovering, but her life and that of our family has been changed since her strokes.


The Stroke Association have been fantastic in their support primarily for my wife in her recovery, but also with their support for me and the wider family, they have been a real source of comfort and information. Therefore I would like to raise some funds to help them continue their unprecedented support for fellow stroke survivors and their families.

Secondly; as an added bonus any money raised over and above my target will be donated to Bowel Cancer UK, as I am a Bowel Cancer survivor with a permanent colostomy now, which will be interesting when I run this marathon as it will be my first (and perhaps only one) with my colostomy bag.

Week 3, 4 and 5 Marathon Training Updates

Thursday 16th Nov
So its been a few weeks since i posted my training progress, but fear not I have been training, since we got back off our holidays I have done the three weeks training covering a total of 60 KM's with a few swim sessions interspersed with the runs.

Fundraising has slowed a little, but there is time to ramp up the fundraising

Week 2 Marathon Training Update

Friday 27th Oct
So this week I’ve been on holiday with the family in Poole, Dorset. Weather was kind enough for me to get four runs in totally 21.7km’s, longest of which was 6.4k’s

Scary to think I need to run seven times further than my longest run to date to finish a marathon, oh well I have six months to train 🤣🤣

On to next week, week three of my schedule

Week 1 Marathon Training Complete

Friday 20th Oct
Whoop whoop, the journey has begun. Three 3 mile runs done, two of which were in very inclement weather conditions, hey the joys of autumn / winter marathon training.

Next week steps up just a little, a four miler on the plan. 

Six months sounds such a long time to train, but trust me it’s not
