I'm taking part in the Great North Run as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Why I'm running...

Friday 12th Jan
I have a personal connection with Stroke Association. Both of my grandfathers suffered debilitating strokes that had life-changing consequences. One sadly passed away several years ago after suffering with the effects of a stroke, while the other now has to deal with vascular dementia -- a disease that directly correlates with a stroke he experienced many years ago. 

My wife's dad also tragically died a few years ago just days after entering hospital following a serious stroke. She and the rest of her family are still dealing with this traumatic event and he is missed every single day.

I'll be running the the Great North Run in honour of all three of these hugely important people in the hope of raising funds that will truly make a difference and help make sure that other families don't have to suffer similarly in the future.
