I joined #TeamStroke for the Cardiff Half Marathon 2026!

There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Running because she can't.

Many years ago my mum had a stroke. I was thousands of miles away.  It was terrifying, I didn't know who to turn to, and I contacted the Stroke Association. They were full of good advice and an amazing source of relevant info.

Mum made an amazing recovery, but sadly a couple of years after that, she passed away due to other health complications related to her heart condition (which had caused the stroke initially).

I am not a runner, but every year I watch those amazing people run the Cardiff Half and I always said that if I ever ran, I would run for the Stroke Association....so that someone like me or mum can have access to the support and advice they need for them and their family in a moment of distress and need...like I did. So many years ago.

My profile photo is that of mum and I on my wedding day.  Suffice to say, I can't quite fit into that outfit anymore , BUT
I am healthy
I am alive
I have air in my lungs
I have mum in my heart and
I will run for her and for all of the other people affected by stroke who need the support of the Stroke Association.
