Stride for Stroke

I'm taking part in the Stride for Stroke challenge!

I joined #TeamStroke for Stride for Stroke. I will be taking one step for each of the 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK. The 1.3 million steps challenge works out at 10,000 steps a day for 130 days.

Stroke Association is here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

This year I’ll be taking part in Stride for Stroke. That means in 130 days, I will have walked 1.3 million steps. That’s one step for each of the 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK.

As some of you already know, in March of 2019 my auntie suffered a massive stroke. She was lucky to have made it, and obviously this came with massive complications and impairments. She was left unable to do most things like control her limbs and speak. She fought through all of these and is continuing to fight every day despite the difficulty. We’re all so proud of her and everything she’s done as a mam, an auntie and a nana to the kids that need her.

You can only imagine the toll this had on the family, and a few short months later my cousin had a stroke. Luckily she wasn’t affected physically, but as a mother and a sister she was going through it.

We’re so so so proud as a family to say they’ve both fought to make it to the other side, but this isn’t the case for everyone. A stroke will strike every 5 minutes, and those that make it need ongoing support to get them back to the life they know. And for that reason, I’d like to do my bit to give support back to the people who have given my family the support.

The stroke association offer life changing support by putting people in touch with support groups, finding them financial help all round helping to rebuild their lives. The work they do is incredible and like most charities in the UK they lack funding.

If you can spare anything at all, the donations are massively appreciated by me, my family and the millions of families of those who suffer with the limitations that a stroke has given them.
