I'm taking part in the Great North Run as part of #TeamStroke
I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run.
I've run 5k, 10k, half-marathons, marathons and Tough Mudders for charities over the years, however none of the charities I've raised money for have had a personal link for me. This time is different...
I lost my dad in 2020 after he suffered a severe stroke. It became clear after several weeks that he was never going to recover from it and he passed away four months later. A lot of the Stroke Association's work is helping stroke patients recover following a stroke. They also fund important research which aims to prevent strokes happening. Stroke charities don't get as much publicity as cancer, dementia, mental health and other charities, so I'm going to try and help Stroke Association raise awareness and funds.
I'll be running with my better half, Victoria (pictured), who is a Great North Run veteran. My last event was London Marathon in 2021 and I haven't done any runs in double figures since then, so this isn't going to be a record breaker. We plan on enjoying the run and soaking up the atmosphere.
