I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke
I joined #TeamStroke for the TCS London Marathon 2026.
There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Why I’m Running 26.2 Miles: For My Dad and the Stroke Association
Saturday 7th MarWatching someone you love face that kind of challenge is incredibly tough, but seeing my dad’s resilience throughout his recovery has been nothing short of inspiring. It’s because of him that I’ve decided to take on the 2026 London Marathon to raise money for the Stroke Association.
Stroke is a leading cause of disability, and it doesn't just affect the person who survives it; it affects everyone around them. The Stroke Association provides life-changing support for survivors and funds the research that helps more people like my dad come home. (He has somewhat recovered thankfully but thats thanks to all the nurses & staff who helped him)
I’ll be honest: I’m not exactly a "natural" runner. The thought of training through the winter and hitting that 26.2-mile mark is daunting. But every time my legs feel heavy or I want to quit, I think about the mountain my dad has had to climb this past year.
Compared to that, a marathon is a walk in the park.
I’m running to ensure that other families get the support they need during their darkest days. If you are able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean the world to me (and even more to the Stroke Association).
- £10 could help provide vital information to a survivor.
- £25 could help fund a support group for someone feeling isolated after a stroke.
- £50 helps fund the research that saves lives.
Thank you for all the support, the cheers, and for helping me honor my dad’s journey. See you at the finish line!

Fantastic cause Kirst! My husband had a stroke 3 years ago and has recovered really well. A great charity for people who are struggling following a stroke.
