I'm fundraising for the Stroke Association
In September 2025, my mother experienced a life‑changing event that altered her world in ways none of us could have imagined. She has always been a strong‑willed, confident, independent, kind, and deeply caring woman—someone who would go out of her way for anyone. A true social butterfly, she forms meaningful connections with everyone she meets and has built countless friendships over her lifetime.
She had already endured the heartbreak of losing her husband—my dad—after more than 50 years together in 2024, whilst navigating the challenge of moving cities along the way to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Just as she was beginning to regain a sense of normality and routine and slowly finding her footing again, this new and devastating event reshaped her life once more.
A stroke is a devastating health attack, affecting the body, mind and emotions. Any research that can help to prevent this disease or ensure proper screening to help with early diagnosis and preventive measures would help save many lives and improve quality of life for those that are impacted.
For the past ten years, running has been a big part of my life. I train regularly with a close group of friends and typically cover 30–40 km each week across a mix of terrain.
In June 2026, I’ll be taking on the biggest physical challenge I’ve ever attempted: The Wall – Rat Race, a 70‑mile ultramarathon that follows the historic route of Hadrian’s Wall, starting in Carlisle and finishing in Newcastle.
I’m undertaking this challenge to raise money for the Stroke Association, a cause that means a great deal to me. This event will push me further than anything I’ve done before, and your support will make every mile worthwhile.
Stroke Association is here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Good luck Kirit. A great cause and a serious challenge. My mum suffered a minor stroke a few years ago so I've seen the impact even that can have.
