I'm taking part in the Great Manchester Run 2025 as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great Manchester Run 2025.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

My updates

3 weeks to go! Here’s my reason why.

Monday 28th Apr
In less than three weeks, I’ll be taking on the Great Manchester Run 2025 to raise funds for The Stroke Association — a cause that’s incredibly close to my heart after my fiancé, Zac, suffered a stroke in May 2022.

Zac was just 32 years old and competing at a high-level CrossFit event when blood clots, passing through an undiagnosed hole in his heart, caused extensive damage to multiple areas of his brain.

In the immediate aftermath, Zac lost the use and feeling in his arms and hands, along with his ability to speak.

Despite the trauma and overwhelming challenges, Zac spent countless hours reading aloud and writing down the words he struggled with, practising them relentlessly. Our 3-year-old son, George, even began joining in, repeating the sentences Zac was working so hard to master.

Though he was scared and uncertain, Zac returned to the gym just weeks later, determined to rebuild his strength and confidence. He is now on lifelong medication to prevent any further clotting, but he hasn’t let any of this hold him back.

Zac’s resilience and determination are truly inspiring — not only to me but to so many others who have witnessed his journey. Today, he’s thriving, stronger, and more incredible than ever.

This is why I’ve set myself this challenge, and I cannot wait to cross that finish line in his honour!

I’ll be running the Great Manchester Run 2025 as part of #TeamStroke, tackling the Half Marathon in just 5 weeks!

By now, you all know who inspires me—Zac Blackledge—and I’m proud to support the incredible work of Stroke Association!

Training the last fortnight has really taken its toll on me but I am still as determined as ever!

Any donation, big or small, would mean the world. Please give what you can!
