I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke
After years of trying I’ve finally got a place to run the London marathon!
It seemed only natural to pick the stroke association to fund raise for, not only from personal experience but also because strokes often don’t get the attention and money that many other conditions receive.
Unfortunately I have witnessed first hand the devastating effects that strokes can have, not only for the sufferer of the stroke but their family and friends as well.
Three of my grandparents experienced strokes with varying debilitating consequences, for example, at only 73 my grandma suffered a catastrophic stroke, which robbed her of her independence and cruelly her ability to communicate. This left her trying to rebuild her previous independence and navigate the world without communication. She was resilient, as were my parents who supported her enormously for the next 20 years, nonetheless the lasting effects of the stroke trickled down all through our family.
The stroke association are making a huge difference, they help to support stroke survivors and their families to find the strength they need to find their way back to life.
At the same time, the stroke association funds vital research into strokes to Improve prevention, treatment and care for those affected by stroke.
Any donations will directly make a difference, whilst also helping me during the 26 miles.
Thank you
