From paralysed in a wheelchair to a marathon
I had a big stroke in 2019 out of nowhere - fit, healthy, unlucky. I lost nearly everything - total paralysis in my arms and legs, lots of less visible mental and physical effects. I was in hospital for 3 months, off work for 7, had gamma knife surgery and had to relearn how to use my fingers, think straight, wiggle my toes, walk again.
The battle was brutal. With the support of wonderful NHS teams who I will never forget, with the constant love and support of Victoria, Annabel, George and Scarlett and my very best friends, I have pieced my life together again.
I was relentless in my pursuit of recovery, pushing myself so hard to get back to some normality. I have now been back full time at work for 4 years and built myself up from stumbling, to walking, to jogging and now running. I have foolishly decided to run the Brighton marathon in April for the Stroke Association - I would be eternally grateful if you could sponsor me, even if just a few £.
I have joined the Board of the Stroke Association as a special advisor - they do so much critical work for you when you are in the darkest of holes. They are brilliant.
There is life after stroke, and it is good. You can do it.

Sunday 9th Feb I’ve got up to doing 30km now - it’s very painful; 4 toe nails gone 🤢. My left leg still has very little muscle or balance, meaning I have to drag it round. I feel a bit like the guy who runs the marathon in a deep sea diving suit! ShareThank you to my sponsors
