One Week to Go!

Sunday 19th May

Dear All,

I want to say foremost a massive collective thank you to you all for your incredible support of the Stroke Association. I have been blown away by the response, as reflected by the fact that I have now met my fundraising goal on three separate occasions. This is a testament to your wonderful support, and it will go a long way towards helping any connections who have suffered a stroke. My entire family is incredibly grateful for this support now and the support many of you have shown towards us over many years.

As for the running, with a week to go, I do at least feel a little bit prepared, although I am sure those who have spoken to my mother recently would have a different impression. In terms of targets, the ambitious side of me would like to gun for a sub-4hr/ the Bonnor-Moris record of 3.58.45; the more realistic would be happy to finish. Having never reached such a distance, it is hard to know where I will end up, but I can assure you that when times get tough, it will be your incredible generosity and my dad’s fighting spirit that will help carry me through.

So many thanks, and I look forward to updating you next Sunday after I have crossed the line.

Best Wishes,

Why I am Running

Friday 3rd May
Having conquered the Half last year, I have been somewhat forced into running the Full Edinburgh Marathon on the 26th of May.

I am running in aid of the Stroke Association and my friend Ben is very kindly joining. The last year, while being a rollercoaster in terms of events and emotion, has equally been an important education about strokes, what they are and how they affect people. I have had my eyes opened to the devastating impact of a stroke and how it goes on to affect the survivor, friends and family. The Stroke Association proves crucial in this: spreading information, funding research and campaigning for better rights and support for Stroke Victims.

Primarily, it is a helping hand in the stroke rehabilitation period. This truly means a lot to me having seen the lengths my mum has undergone to stand beside my dad in the last six months. The importance of unwavering support in the recovery period is clear, without help for many there would be no hope.
This is where the charity steps in and backs those with no Caroline. This alongside its wider support, research and information-spreading roles means it is a charity that means a lot to us and I, therefore, ask you to give generously.

Finally, if you would like to follow along with my last-minute training push, feel free to follow my Strava: https://www.strava.com/athletes/112838023

Thank you to my sponsors
