I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke
Joining #TeamStroke for the London Marathon is going to be an honour as well as an emotional one! Both my Dad and my stepdad have been affected by this condition. My Dad’s last stroke has affected us all; 4 days of being unconscious in hospital and waking to find that you can’t talk, or walk, was devasting, to say the least. It was a hard six months in hospital with daily physio and speech therapy, however, Dad was focused and determined to keep trying. Sadly, it is one of those things where Dad will not be able to walk or string together a sentence, but he can sing which makes us all smile including himself! My Stepdad has been the silent hero in my life (he will hate me for saying that!); always there for me without questioning. So, when he had a stroke a year after my Dad’s first major stroke, that was a lot to take in. It sadly occurred during covid, so only one visitor for an hour a day. Fortunately, he made a good recovery, although it has changed who he was, but we still see the sparkle in his eyes when he’s telling one of his jokes.
Running the London Marathon will be mind-blowing and running it for the two amazing men in my life will be emotional, but it will make me determined to finish! Any donation you can spare will be greatly appreciated for this wonderful charity.
