Why i’m running
I’m running the Cardiff Half Marathon for the Stroke Association because stroke has personally affected my family. Both my grandads, grandma and my auntie have had strokes, and seeing the impact it has had on them and the people around them really opened my eyes to how serious and life-changing a stroke can be. The Stroke Association does amazing work supporting stroke survivors and their families, as well as funding vital research and raising awareness. By running this half marathon, I plan to do something positive to help others who are going through similar experiences and to support the incredible work this charity does every day.Every donation, no matter how small, means a lot and will help make a real difference. Friday 2nd OctWith the Cardiff Half Marathon getting closer, I think I’m finally starting to realise what I’ve signed myself up for.
There’s been a strange mix of emotions building as the day approaches. Excitement, nerves, anticipation, and if I’m being completely honest, I do not know what to expect🤣 Running a half marathon is something I’ve wanted to challenge myself with, but knowing that I’m not just running for myself makes it feel even more important..
As race day gets closer, the nerves are becoming harder to ignore.I’ve spent weeks thinking about the training, the distance and whether I’ll actually be able to keep going when things get tough. Thirteen miles is a long way, and I know there will probably be a point during the race where my legs are tired and my mind starts telling me that I’ve had enough.But I keep reminding myself why I’m doing it.When the training has been difficult, having a reason bigger than simply finishing the race has helped me keep putting one foot in front of the other.
The Cardiff Half Marathon will obviously be a huge personal challenge, but running for Stroke Association has given the whole experience a much deeper meaning.
Stroke can have such a devastating impact on people and their families, and the work that organisations like Stroke Association do to support people affected by stroke is incredibly important.
Every donation, every message of support and every bit of encouragement has made this journey feel worthwhile before I’ve even crossed the start line.
That’s something I’ll be thinking about when the race gets tough.Alongside the nerves, I’m genuinely excited.
There’s something special about running through Cardiff surrounded by thousands of other people, all taking on their own challenges and raising money for causes that mean something to them.
I can already imagine the atmosphere on race day — the crowds, the noise, the music, the support and that feeling of finally getting started after months of thinking about it.
And, hopefully, the feeling of crossing that finish line.I know it’s going to be emotional but worth such a good cause and I cannot thank my friends and family enough for the most amazing support!🥰🥳🏃🏼♀️
