I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke
I joined #TeamStroke for the TCS London Marathon 2024.
There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

My grandmas story
Wednesday 30th AugIn December 2017, whilst at home with my Grandad, my grandma became very unwell and it was clear she was having a stroke. She was taken to hospital by the emergency ambulance and quickly after arriving, she was transferred to the Stroke ward. The CT scan diagnosed an Ischaemic stroke and the medical team were not sure If my grandma would survive as the stroke progressed the first night she was in hospital.
Thankfully, after being in the hospital for 6 weeks, she was able to go home to where she lives with my grandad. She initially needed a package of care and hospital equipment- bed, commode etc. which was provided to them by the stroke association.
My grandma is now fairly independent and walks with a frame or rollator and her speech is nearly back to her pre stroke baseline.
She attends the stroke association support group in Stowmarket, Suffolk weekly - this has really helped her to come to terms with her stroke and allowed her to meet others that have also had strokes. The stroke association have allowed my grandma to take part in stimulating activities and have taken my grandparents on trips which they may not have been able to do alone.
The stroke association is a charity extremely close to my families heart and we will be forever grateful for everything they did and continue to do to support my grandma.
