TCS London Marathon 2024

I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the TCS London Marathon 2024.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

My inspiration for running

Sunday 23rd Apr
My Nan Beryl who although being 85 was one of the most active and outgoing people you could ever meet. Sadly we lost my grandad (beryls husband) in January 2022 after years of caring for him. She done amazingly well to bounce back from this and was going out every day to shop, and just get about and explore (even though she only had a bus pass!). She was the life and soul of wherever she was and we all loved her dearly. Sadly in October 2022 whilst my nan was on holiday at my parents in Devon, she suffered a big stroke. Her whole right side was badly affected, however the doctors said that they were confident that she could regain most of this with treatment which we were all so relieved by. After weeks of hospital care she was well enough to be discharged and live with my parents who could work from home whilst they cared for her. She had successful physio sessions 3x a week and was really doing well. She then, in March 2023 was well and able enough to move into a lovely assisted living apartment in Barnstaple where she made friends with everyone on the first day and started going out on her own with them to the local shops. She was doing so well and enjoying her new life but sadly it wasn’t meant to be. She unfortunately suffered another stroke on the morning of march 26th, and was again rushed into hospital. I myself then drove down immediately (I currently live in London) to be with her as we was told that she didn’t have long. We was all so hopeful she could pull through as she had done before whenever she was under the weather. We visited her every day and in her final moments as she was peacefully sleeping. Beryl, my nan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday 4th April. We are all heartbroken, however we have all been remembering the times we had as we was so close. I was lucky enough to see her most weekends and she spent time with me my partner and my daughter Ada who adored her. It would be an absolute honour to run for this charity and to celebrate my nans life whilst also raising money to help future stroke sufferers.

Any donation no matter how small would mean so much to me and I thank you all for any donations given.
