TCS London Marathon 2024 as part of #TeamStroke


On Sunday 21st April 2024 over 48 000 people will gather together to run the TCS London Marathon. A total of 578,374 people from the UK and across the world entered the 26.2 mile ballot setting a new world record. 


Many of you might ask why I am mad enough to do it all over again? 


Well here’s my story…..


On the evening of Monday 11th December 2006 my Dad Jeff Wingrove passed away at the age of 48 from a Stroke.


From that day our life’s changed forever. My mum lost her husband and my brother and I lost our dad. I was only 21 at the time and my brother was nearing his 12th birthday when all our lives changed. The man I looked up to was no longer there and that evening I knew growing into adult hood was going to change rather quickly. 


You never prepare for these moments in life and we all hope to be able to enjoy life with our parents, watching them grow old together, allowing them to whisper those words of advice, enjoying life and watching the world go by.


That evening all three of us were asked about organ donation. Something none of us had ever thought about before. The team at Queens Hospital, Romford were nothing but amazing but the question had to be asked. Would you consider organ donation?


My Dad that night saved the lives of 5 loved ones. That evening a young gentleman received a phone call and was fortunate to receive a heart transplant, a 54 year old male patient received a lung transplant, somebody received a new liver, a female patient received both a new kidney and pancreas and finally a 36 year old teacher received the other kidney. 


We will never know who these people are nor will we ever meet them but we know Jeff Wingrove walks in the foot steps of these great people. My Dad was able to give a life changing gift to others. 


Unfortunately, some strokes can be very serious and some may lead to coma or sudden death. That’s why it’s so important to be able to recognise the symptoms and get medical help as quickly as possible.


Stroke strikes every five minutes in the UK. It can happen to anyone, of any age, at any time. It's vital to know how to spot the signs of a stroke in yourself or someone else. 


Now wipe away those tears and do me a huge favour give a big hug to those you love and enjoy every moment with them, tell them how much you love them and always live your life to the fullest. 


I am so excited, proud and honoured to be able to wear team strokes running shirt for London 2024.
