TCS London Marathon 2024

I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the TCS London Marathon 2024.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Let’s Go!!!

Friday 29th Sep
I can’t believe I am writing this, but next year, on my birthday, I will be running the London Marathon 2024. This is going to be the hardest task I have ever done in my life. I know this is going to be really really tough, but not even half the battle my dad has and still currently fighting through. I will be running this solo which is a very scary concept for me, a lot of blood, sweat and tears involved. I will be running to raise money for Stroke Association. All support and donations welcome. Ahhhhh I’m sooo scared but so excited!!! 💜💛

I AM RUNNING THE LONDON MARATHON FOR MY DAD

Thursday 7th Sep
In July 2022, my dad got rushed into hospital with a perforated bowel, we all rushed to his side as we were told he would be going in for major surgery within the next 2 hours. We were all in a bit of shock and disbelief of what was happening.
The months to follow were beyond difficult.

Dad made it out of the surgery and placed in Intensive Care Unit for a couple of days, we went to visit but he was barely conscious. He then got moved to the Surgical High Dependency Unit, which he later stayed in for the next 3 months.

A week after the original surgery, we noticed that dad wasn’t slurring his words and finding it difficult to communicate, that’s when we came up with the idea of getting him to communicate through writing. What we witnessed next, shocked us, his words weren’t words. He couldn’t write. It was then after a CT on his head it was confirmed he had suffered a stroke, whilst recovering from major bowel surgery.

For weeks and weeks, was hard work, the hospital was a second home as dad fought to come back home to us.

Dad was suffering, but we were equally suffering, it was a deep sadness to see the man that raised you so helpless.

A lump in the throat every single day! As the countless times dad scarred us with near deaths.

Finally in September, dad was home! But not for long, the next two months, dad was in and out of hospital with complications.

Until it all went downhill again. On Boxing Day 2022, dad had his second stroke, an even worst one than before. Dad was rushed into hospital. But it was too late, he had lost all feeling on the right hand side of his body.

In mid January 2023, dad was home again!  Since then, dad struggled and got very low and depressed and just wanted to give up as he tried to readjust to the new way of living.

Intense therapy and the love and support of his family, dad is fighting to get back to walking again by himself.

He’s not there just yet, but YET is the important word in this! We know he will get there! He is dad! He never gives up!

Thank you to my sponsors
