Colin Abernethy

Stroke Association

I'm fundraising for...

I am doing the Lisburn Half Marathon this year for the Stroke Association

I had a stroke on 27th May 2019.  I was 38 and definitely didn't think I had a stroke.  But I just knew something very odd happened to me.  My speech was ok and my face was ok but I had lost power down my left side.  My wife had to help me into the house and called the out of hours doctor which instructed me to go the hospital.  The team where there waiting on me and where so professional it was impressive.

The Stroke Association played a big part in helping me once I had got out of hospital.  Nothing prepared me for the after affects which were unseen from the outside.  But the staff from the Stroke Association where amazing at helping me and my family understand what was going on inside my brain and what had actually happened to me.  I still have my struggles but I have got better at dealing with them.

So I wanted to try and give something back and also  a wee celebration to myself for getting back to some sort of fitness.

Any donation is very welcome!! Much love, Colin
