TCS London Marathon 2025

I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of Team Stroke

100,000 strokes happen in the UK every year, that's one stroke every 5 minutes & in 2023 my dad became part of that statistic.

Dad suffered a severe ischaemic stroke leaving him completely paralysed down his right side and unable to swallow, talk, walk or remember who any of us were. His memory was gone, his independence taken and our hearts shattered. After 5 long months of recovery & intense therapy in hospital, he was able to come home one week before Christmas - a gift we were so grateful for.

Although dad is home & much better than he was - recovery is slow. He still suffers with aphasia, a language disorder caused by brain damage. It has left him with the inability to easily read, write, listen & hold conversation how you or I would do with ease. He no longer has use of his right arm and is registered partially blind, he cannot work or drive, needs a profusion of daily medication, weekly physio, regular hospital check ups and yet, he does all of this with a smile on his face every single day.

Without the Stroke Association, dad would not have had access to vital treatment & specialist therapies. The Stroke Association relies on donations to fund more research into preventative & rehabilitative treatments to help survivors rebuild their lives after a stroke.

Dad’s determination on his ongoing recovery journey will be my motivation throughout.

Hi Chelsea Your dad is a great man, when I first got involved with coaching , he has helped me to get my level 1 coaching , I have enjoyed coaching with Hsmjfc , together with Richard Cusworth, Simon Wade, Andrew Longfellow, Patrick Baker , Joe Gething . And most importantly all my 3 children played football for the club. Oldest Kenan is playing now semi professional in abroad , just about to be a pro, his younger brother Emre , playing for Guisely , and his younger sister is still playing girls U16 with Gary. We are all greatfull to your dad for what has achieved , because I remember his dream when he first telling us all about it and he made it real . My regards to all off you , kind regards Erkan

So sad to hear of the current difficult times you are going through - good luck with running the London Marathon Chelsea. Paul was always a positive focal point for me at HSM and I wish him all the best for his recovery journey. If Paul faces the challenge anything like he faced a Garforth League disciplinary meeting, I'm sure there will be more positive times ahead for you all!!! Best wishes.
