January 16th of 2025, my Dad suffered a Hemorrhagic Stroke and was in hospital for almost 4 months. This came unexpectedly, as most strokes do, and was a huge shock to all of our family and friends. Dad was left with a weakness in the right side of his body, initially having no mobility, but since has come home and engaged thoroughly with physiotherapy, all from his own determination to get better. Dad is gaining his independence back everyday, but it is still a long process.

There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

The Stroke Association has since been a charity close to us; many don't know much about strokes until you are directly faced with it.

I'd like to take a page from my Dad's book, stepping out of my comfort zone. I've joined #TeamStroke for the stunning Bath Half Marathon 2026, taking in some of Bath's famous landmarks on closed roads.

They're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. Believing everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so they work with people affected by strokes helping them get the very best care and support. They rely on external support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Passed the finish line after 2hours 55 minutes. 

So glad that I committed myself to this event and saw it through (even though my headphones cut out in the last 5km). Amazing to see a community come together.
