MCR Half Marathon
When my mum passed away suddenly last year, I was super lost (and, if I’m honest, still am). I took up running to channel my emotions, and what began as a way of coping turned into ‘couch to half marathon.’
In October 4th, I’ll be taking part in the Manchester Half Marathon and would love to raise some money for the Stroke Association in memory of my precious mum. ❤️
In the UK, someone has a stroke every five minutes. Around 100,000 people have a stroke each year, and approximately 1.4 million stroke survivors are living with its often devastating effects.
Sadly, my mum never made it out of hospital after her stroke. Her stroke was initially missed, causing a delay in diagnosis—something that will always stay with me. While I can’t change what happened, I hope to raise money for vital research into stroke prevention, treatment and recovery, as well as support for people and families affected by stroke.
My mum would be absolutely flabbergasted to know I’m doing this. I’ve never been sporty or a runner, so I know she’d think I’m crackers for voluntarily running this far! 😂
I’m also proper proud, and I know she would be too. I hope this challenge can turn one of the hardest experiences of my life into something positive that helps other families in the future.
