Miles for Jerry: Liana and Katherine’s Strides Against Stroke

TCS London Marathon 2026

We are taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke

At the beginning of 2020 Liana’s father, Jerry, suffered a catastrophic stroke whilst he was living in Hong Kong which sadly left him grossly incapacitated. Unfortunately, in the first year after his stroke, Jerry’s family and many of his friends were unable to visit him owing to Covid-19 travel restrictions which subsequently made a huge impact on his recovery. Sadly, over a four and a half year period his condition progressively worsened and he eventually lost all of his motor function and speech. In July 2024 Jerry sadly passed away. Shortly before his death, Liana and her siblings made strides to try and relocate Jerry to the U.K. so they could be closer to him. Stroke Association played a pivotal role at this time offering an enormous amount of guidance and support. Liana would like to show her gratitude for their support by raising funds for the Stroke Association by running the London Marathon. It is also her aim to increase awareness around strokes as the physical/mental damage and heartbreak that sadly can be bi-products of a stroke are largely preventable providing the signs and symptoms of a stroke are caught quickly.

Jerry is hugely missed by Liana, her family and all his friends and she hopes that completing the London Marathon will be a way of honouring him and the happy memories shared by everyone who knew him.

Stroke can strike in an instant, but its impact can last a lifetime - a constant reminder of how devastating this condition can be, not just for individuals, but for entire families. Two of Katherine’s grandparents also suffered life-changing side effects following strokes, so that’s why we have both committed to raising money for Stroke Association, a charity that provides vital support to stroke survivors and their loved ones, funds groundbreaking research, and works tirelessly to raise awareness. Every donation, no matter the size, helps offer hope, care, and the possibility of a better future for thousands affected by stroke. Please consider supporting this cause close to our hearts. Thank you! Liana and Katherine x
