I'm taking part in the Stride for Stroke challenge!
I joined #TeamStroke for Stride for Stroke. I will be taking one step for each of the 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK. The 1.3 million steps challenge works out at 10,000 steps a day for 130 days.
I am taking part in this challenge in support of my dad and others like him. In September 2020 we had a huge shock just days after my 18th birthday when my dad suffered from a stroke and heart failure whilst in hospital recovering from atrial fibrillation. After a life saving thrombectomy at St George’s in London half of his blood clot was removed, leaving him with significant damage to his left side of the brain which has left him with a condition called Aphasia. Aphasia is a condition which leaves those affected unable to speak, read or write. After intensive speech and occupational therapy and support from the Stroke Association, three years on he has slowly made some improvements but daily life is still a struggle. I have taken on this challenge as I’ve seen first hand how a stroke can change a person but also how it affects all members of a family.
Stroke Association is here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
