Ellie and Gary

We're fundraising for...
Thank you for visiting our page! We will be taking on the Sheffield Half Marathon to raise money for the Stroke Association. As 2 students studying Speech and Language Therapy, we see first-hand the vital role charities like the Stroke Association can play in supporting people affected by stroke, particularly in providing communication support throughout recovery.
In 2020, Ellie’s dad Gary suffered a life-changing stroke. He spent two years between different hospitals and brain rehabilitation units dedicating himself to relearning everyday life skills that many of us take for granted. With the support of Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physiotherapy, he worked incredibly hard to gain his independence back. Today, Gary is back at his home and remains determined to continue rebuilding his life again.
Before his stroke, Gary was incredibly adventurous. He loved hiking wherever he could and had a real passion for mountain biking, often tackling trails that most people wouldn’t dare try. He always encouraged others to stay active and challenge themselves, just as he did. Running this half marathon is our way of honouring that spirit. By joining in this challenge, we hope to support the Stroke Association and the work they do for stroke survivors.
The Stroke Association is an incredible charity that provides specialist support services, funds vital research into stroke prevention and rehabilitation, and campaigns for better stroke care. They support stroke survivors and their families throughout recovery, offering services such as the Stroke Recovery Service, communication support for people with aphasia, and dedicated helplines.
By taking on this challenge, we hope to raise money to support the incredible work they do and help ensure that others receive the care, support, and hope that Gary and his family did.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, any donations would be greatly appreciated :)
