Why I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke
Thursday 5th SepHi everyone,
I know me running the London Marathon may come as a surprise, but I have been given the opportunity to run and raise money for a charity that is very close to both my heart and my family’s hearts.
My grandmother Sarah was a very strong and active woman, but after having a stroke in 1990, her life was never the same, and she lost all of her independence. In 1994, my grandmother Sarah sadly passed, leaving me too young to have any memories of her. Her passing left my family heartbroken.
On Christmas Eve, December 2022, my Nanny Marion also had a stroke. Her life changed for the foreseeable future, and unfortunately, she was never the same before eventually passing in April 2023. Being very close with my Nan, this was devastating for us all.
With that being said, I am running in memory of both of these amazing women to help raise funds for a charity that helps families who have had strokes recover and return to the best life possible.
I joined #TeamStroke for the TCS London Marathon 2025.
There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
