🏃 Running the London Marathon for the Stroke Association : A Personal Journey, A Powerful Cause
In April, I’ll be lacing up my trainers and joining thousands of others to take on the incredible challenge of the London Marathon—but I’m not just running for the medal. I’m running for The Stroke Association, a charity that quite literally helped my family and I find our footing again after one of the most difficult chapters of our lives.
When I was 15, my dad suffered multiple strokes. It turned our world upside down. Watching someone you love go through something so frightening and life-altering at such a young age is an experience that stays with you forever. In those weeks and months after, we were overwhelmed—confused, scared, and unsure of what life would look like moving forward.
That’s where The Stroke Association stepped in.
They offered support when we didn’t even know what kind of help to ask for. From resources that helped us understand the effects of stroke, to emotional guidance, practical advice, and access to an incredible community—we were never alone. They empowered us when we felt powerless.
The Stroke Association also support carers. These people pick up the pieces with impact that lasts for many many years. In many cases, the impact on family members and carers can be bigger than the survivor themselves. My mum is a true hero to me for the care she continues to give my dad. I run this as much for her as for him - and anyone affected by Stroke.
So, it’s my turn to give something back.
Every step I run is in gratitude for what they gave my family. But I need your help. By donating—no matter how big or small—you’ll be supporting other families going through the same unimaginable hardship. You'll be funding life-saving research, rehabilitation support, and vital recovery services.
💜 Why It Matters
Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability in the UK.
Over 100,000 strokes occur in the UK every year.
The Stroke Association supports survivors, campaigns for better care, and funds research to improve outcomes.
