Running for my grandad - supporting the stroke association
Tuesday 12th MayThis year I am taking part in the Royal Parks half marathon to raise money and give back to a charity which has helped my family.
Last year my grandad suffered from a stroke and although he is still fighting every day, life has changed drastically for himself and the people around him. A stroke doesn’t just affect someone for a moment; the effects can impact someone’s life for long after the initial event. For my grandad this has meant ongoing symptoms impacting basic functional movements, reduced independence and mental health struggles as he has navigated this unexpected journey.
Watching someone you love struggle with things that once came naturally is incredibly difficult. Simple parts of everyday life can become exhausting, frustrating, and sometimes impossible. Despite this, my grandad continues to show determination and resilience.
That’s why I decided to run this half marathon.
I want to challenge myself physically and mentally while raising money for the Stroke Association, whose work supports stroke survivors and their families through recovery, rehabilitation, research, and vital emotional support. The charity helps people rebuild their confidence and quality of life after a stroke, something that my family is especially grateful for.
Every donation, no matter how small, will help support people living with the life-changing effects of a stroke and fund the incredible work the Stroke Association does every day.
