Finally accepting that I'm doing the Great North Run 2026 #TeamStroke
I'm running for the Stroke Association because in February 2024 my Mam suffered a life-changing stroke.
Before her stroke she enjoyed her own routines and way of life. Overnight, everything changed. She was taken from her home to hospital and has never returned. She now lives in a care home and has never regained her mobility or the use of her arm or leg.
Watching that happen to someone you love and living with the aftermath is something I wouldn't wish on anyone.
I actually secured my Great North Run place in September 2025, but didn't tell many people because I wanted to build some confidence and get some training under my belt before I truly believed I could do it. Then life had other ideas, and I've spent months dealing with calf injuries and physio, which probably makes me sound far more of a runner than I really am (the injuries weren't even running-related!).
Anyway... I've finally accepted that, one way or another, I will be on that start line in September. Whether I run, walk, shuffle or crawl, I'm determined to make it all the way to South Shields.
Every donation, no matter how small, will help the Stroke Association continue supporting stroke survivors and their families through one of the toughest experiences life can throw at them.
Thank you for reading, supporting and cheering me on all the way to South Shields 🖤

My Foot-Out-the-Door Strategy
Monday 20th Jul
Well, today is the day I launched my fundraising page, and I honestly didn't expect so much support so quickly.
Thank you to everyone who has liked, shared, commented and donated already.
To make sure today's run actually happens, I've deployed my trusted "foot-out-the-door" strategy.
New running leggings (first time out of black!)? ✔️ On.
Camera-ready work shirt? ✔️ Also on.
Cosy slippers that should definitely not be part of a running outfit? ✔️ Still on!
It's not a fashion statement, but it's my way of being ready. If I'm already halfway there, it's much harder to talk myself out of it later.
So while I may currently look like I've got dressed in the dark, the important thing is that it's run day today, and I'm heading out with a little extra motivation thanks to all of your support.
Every donation, message and share is helping me take another step forward. Thank you so much. ❤️🏃♀️

Donated with love. ❤️ Sue, I know your mam is your absolute world, and seeing you take on the Great North Run for such a cause close to your heart is truly inspiring. You spend so much time believing in and encouraging everyone else—now it’s your turn to believe in yourself. You’ve got the determination, strength and heart to achieve this, and I know you’ll smash every mile. (Just think of it as the longest Body Magic session ever! 😂🏃♀️) Your mam will be incredibly proud, and every step you take will help make a difference for families affected by stroke. Wishing you the very best of luck—you’ve got this! 💙🏅
