I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2026 as part of #TeamStroke

In September, it will be five years since we lost our dad following a stroke. In May 2021, he suffered a stroke that left him in hospital for three months. During that time, he faced many challenges and sadly suffered another stroke, which left him much weaker. A few weeks later, we said goodbye to him.

Dad loved supporting and watching any type of sport, so I know how proud he would be of my running journey; which is why I wanted to run my first half marathon in his memory. Taking on the Great North Run feels like a fitting way to honour him while supporting a great cause.

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2026.

There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

No survivor should have to face life after stroke without stroke support, providing consistent, tailored help on the long journey to recovery.

We work with the stroke community to ensure the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
