What a weekend! Was such a tough run especially in that heat After a difficult couple of months, I'm so happy the hard work paid off and I crossed that finish line. A massive thank you to everyone who donated, we smashed the goal and raised over 1000 for @thestrokeassociation! and thankyou to the little cheering squad at the finish line

Why I’m taking part in the GNR 2026

Friday 12th Sep

As a complete running novice, I'm challenging myself to run the Great North Run to raise money for the Stroke Association. This cause is deeply personal to me, as two close family members have experienced strokes, and the support they received made a significant difference in their lives.


In 2015, my mam suffered a severe stroke, leaving her in a coma for weeks. The suddenness of it devastated our family. Thankfully, with extensive support, she survived and had to relearn how to walk, talk, and eat. Despite ongoing paralysis and speech difficulties, her incredible recovery has exceeded all expectations.


Even a decade later, she continues to inspire us with her strength and determination to live as independently as possible, embracing life to the fullest. Her resilience is a testament to the vital support provided by the Stroke Association.


Additionally, another family member has also faced the challenge of recovering from two strokes, requiring extensive speech therapy, physiotherapy, and ongoing support. Despite these hardships, we're deeply grateful for their presence in our lives, understanding how much worse things could have been.


That's why I'm running the Great North Run - for my mam, Michael, and everyone whose life has been affected by strokes. 💖
