I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke
My name is Saddique and I’m 31 years old and this is my life so far…
In 2007 my life changed so drastically. February 6th, 2007—is the date that my life changed beyond recognition. One minute I had everything I wanted and the entire world in front of me, the next it gave way beneath my feet. I had absolutely no power, no control, to stop what was about to unfold.
At fourteen years of age, I suffered a brain infection— a subdural empyema. It left me severely disabled. The moment I realised and understood the words that were being said to me about my prognosis— I felt that nothing would ever be same again.
So began a new life for me and a new way of living. With sheer determination and hard work, I got myself up on my feet and out of a wheelchair. I got back as much movement as I could (though my stubborn arm and hand still refuse to budge!) It was not easy, it was damn hard, and I still face challenges.
I got myself back up off the floor and joined a table tennis club which after much practicing and playing, I was soon travelling all over the UK, competing in games and made it to the Olympic School Games. I also joined a disabled football team and competed nationally and internationally.
After vigorous training I excelled in distant running. And so began my love for running which has led to many runs for charity. I take part in the Epilepsy 10k run every year and have raised hundreds of pounds for the Bradford Disability Football club when I ran 150k in 22 days. I trained vigorously to take part in the Great North Run in 2023. I also completed the Manchester Marathon and Yorkshire marathon.

From climbing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks (twice) to National 3 Peaks, to taking part in the Tough Mudder (twice). I always like to push myself both physically and mentally and set myself the next challenge. Overall, I have climbed over 100 mountains and counting! I completed the Pennine Way in June; it was such an awesome experience.
Though my life has taken a different route than I had expectedfor myself, I still try my best to live my life to the maximum. Disability does not mean inability. Every obstacle I have overcome gives me the strength to face the next challenge, the next adventure.
To be able to compete the London Marathon would be like a dream come true as I watch it on television every year wishing I were taking part. If I do get accepted, I will be raising money for the charity Stroke Association.
