I'm taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon as part of #TeamStroke
I joined #TeamStroke for the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2025 in memory of my Nan, Margaret Stevens.
A few years before I lost my Nan, she suffered a series of mini strokes, which over time affected her ability to communicate. Thankfully I knew my Nan well enough to know what she meant, but I could see it was very upsetting for her to not be able to talk to people as she always had.
One thing my Nan did regularly was attend Stroke Association meetings. She loved these and the people she met there, and it was a great way for her to socialise with fellow stroke survivors.
There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
I am running on behalf of the Stroke Association to help raise awareness and much needed funds. I feel in particular mini strokes and the impact they can have, are not spoken about enough, and I want this to change.
