Smashing the TCS London Marathon 2027 & Guinness World Record with #TeamStroke

In the Spring of 2026 my wonderful Granaran was affected by a stroke that left her hospitalised and uncertain about her future. Whilst we are fortunate to have a supportive and proactive family unit that have worked hard with her on her journey to recovery, not everyone is so lucky or has the time and resources for being able to commit to this undertaking. My Grandad was similarly affected by a stroke and required supported residential living in the last few years of his life: anything that can go towards the research and support that is sorely needed to help prevent and treat this is absolutely worth it. 

Anyone who knows me knows I have been stoically entering the London Marathon ballot for what feels like a million years. Having Gran so poorly was the shove I needed to bite the bullet and apply for a place with The Stroke Association, who have agreed to have me on their team! I ran my first ever marathon for them 3 years ago dressed as a banana, and I intend to do so at London. The Guinness World Record for fastest female dressed as a fruit is within my grasp, and I am fully happy to degrade my self by donning the banana suit once more and trying to get this world record whilst raising a boatload of funding for a very worthy cause. 

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. With strength, determination and the right support, recovery is possible. 
 
By taking on this challenge with Team Stroke, I'll be fundraising to provide tailored support to tens of thousands of stroke survivors each year, fund vital scientific research, and campaign to secure the best care and support for everyone affected by stroke.
