I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2025 as part of #TeamStroke

Hi! 


I keep being told that I need to set myself a goal that doesn’t involve work or exams. So being a glutton for punishment, I’ve signed myself up for the Great North Run in September.

As someone who only does the occasional 5k (when it’s sunny) a half marathon might be a bit of a stretch. 

However, I will be powered by delusion, a chat GPT training plan and Self Esteem's new album. 

There is a serious side to this. Last year my previously fit and well Dad had a brain haemorrhage which came as a shock to the family. 

My dad is doing ok, and throughout this process he has being singing the praises of The Stroke Association.  They have supported him emotional, physically and advocated for him in an often confusing NHS system. 

Even though he will probably never see this, I will be thinking of him when my left hip is playing up and all the invaluable work this wonderful charity does for stroke survivors and their families.

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2025.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
