Running for Steve - 
I have always dreamed about running the London Marathon, but I never thought I would commit to a charity place. 
That all changed on the 23rd February 2023 when life threw a curve ball for myself and my wonderful Firbobs family. Our amazing Stevie Door had a stroke. 
The following days were spent in a hellish daze, praying for the best whilst expecting the worse. I spent those days visiting Steve and surrounding myself with my Firbobs family and friends for support. This helped me to support my two boys, who were  struggling to understand what was happening to Steve but knew a cloud of sadness had descended. Whilst visiting Steve, I learnt a few things:
- strokes are very common in a very wide array or outcomes(Around 100,000 people have strokes each year and there are 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK,) 
- That nurses are bloody heros!  The love and care of every nurse and doctor on that ward was nothing short of heart warming. 
- Steve really did have the best family and friends who loved him dearly. 
Steve passed away on the 3rd of March. 
Those who know me well know I struggled with losing Steve more than I could have ever imagined. Chance had made us colleagues, but Steve’s kindness, stupidity , warmth and ability to count skipping ropes (if you know you know😂) had made us friends. Losing Steve's friendship, knowing I'd never hear his stupid jokes or recieve a daft message, completely floored me and everyone who knew Steve. 
After a tremendous outpouring of love and support from friends, family and my councillor, I decided I needed to do something positive with my grief in Steve’s memory. 

Steve always thought it was bonkers that I enjoyed running asking me, “Do you run so you don’t kill people boss?” and, “You must be mad !“ Both are very true, so I could not think of a more fitting way to honour Steve’s memory than doing the thing he thought I was mad for doing but the thing I also know he admired me for! And so I am running the 2025 London Marathon to raise money for Stroke Association and to remember the man I was truly blessed to call my friend.  At the end of the race, a good glass of red wine will be waiting for me, to drink in his honour.
