I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2026 as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2026.

There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

No survivor should have to face life after stroke without stroke support, providing consistent, tailored help on the long journey to recovery.

We work with the stroke community to ensure the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Training updates

Tuesday 11th Aug
Update on my training.
It’s going slow and already I’ve had blood, sweat and tears so to speak.
The pain is real as suffering with o going shingle pain and the usual lower back pain so runs are slow and so is progress.
It won’t be a PB this year or anywhere near a fast one but the determination of training through the pain and running the event on the day still as believe you me I’ve felt like dropping out everyday will be a huge achievement in itself.
I know I can get over that finish line by hook or by crook, no walking and just keep plodding on ♥️👍

The reason

Thursday 9th Jul
Im running the Great north run this year for the stroke society as this charity is close to many of our hearts amongst our friendship circle, due to a close friend Dean Askew having a stroke last year.
He’s definitely on the road to recovery with the huge help from his family and obviously the professionals behind this amazing charity, amongst others.
Please donate to help the charity bring support to other families like Deans and help others on that road to recovery.

Dean words ♥️

The stroke association have been a massive support and help in all aspects of my recovery, for me and my family. The local stroke association advisor, Gemma Gartland has been amazing. She has excellent links with the NHS stroke rehabilitation team and together they are all so supportive. I can’t thank them all enough for the support they have gave to me and my family
