Myself and Daniel are taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2026 as part of #TeamStroke.
Dad suffered a Haemorrhagic Stroke in October 2025 and was diagnosed with Aphasia, a neurological language disorder caused by brain damage, often as a result of stroke or injury. Aphasia affects a person's ability to speak, understand, read, and write, but it does not impact intelligence. He spent nine weeks in hospital receiving intensive rehabilitation and is now slowly recovering. Dad continues to receive support at home through regular speech therapy and occupational therapy sessions.
Mum experienced a transient ischaemic attack (TIA) in January 2025 and was supported by a stroke nurse and physiotherapist during her recovery at home.
There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care, and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
