Royal Parks Half Marathon 2025

I'm taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon as part of #TeamStroke

So I guess I’m really doing this running thing again then. I’ve signed up to run my first ever half marathon in October, the Royal Parks half marathon, and have decided to raise money for the stroke assoc.

My last serious effort to run the NYC marathon was curtailed when my Dad suffered a massive stroke in Sept 2016, which left him unable to speak, swallow or move his left side. He subsequently died in the Dec of that year. So it give me enormous pleasure to run my first ever half marathon, and raise money for the stroke association at the same time.

I know the current financial season is hard, but I would really appreciate any donation, large or small, to help push me towards my target of £350 for them.

And for those of you who are the praying type, prayers for my protection as I re start training after 12yrs. Thank you enormously. #royalparkshalfmararathon25 #togetherwecandothis #thankyou

I joined #TeamStroke for the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2025.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

First 5k park run this Saturday.

Wednesday 18th Jun
Can’t say I’m looking forward to this Saturday and my first 5km park run. Not just because this will be the furthest distance I’ve run without stopping but also the heat!! I’ve been watching the weather app with an ever growing sense of ‘really!’ So grateful that I’ve been running with a water bottle, so it won’t feel uncomfortable or something new for Saturday.
If you’re the praying kind please pray for me, I’m feeling nervous about the distance. Tonight will be my final run before Saturday and it’s posted as a gentle 2.5km run. Which is probably just as well as the heat is meant to be around 27 degrees when I’m home for work!
Help.

Over half way with 5k training

Tuesday 27th May
Well it’s been a few weeks of battling mental hurdles and more recently elemental hurdles in the form of strong wind and heavy rain. Which I guess makes me an official runner now. 😊
Grateful to all the donations so far but would love it if we could push on and raise even more.
Tomorrow is my first proper interval training running segments fast so I’m feeling a little nervous about my left hip as it’s still twinging away when I go up and down stairs or after sitting still for too long and I get up. Still onwards.

Excitement or fear?

Tuesday 29th Apr
Anyone who knows me will say I am an all or nothing kinda person, and for the past few years I’ve felt like I’ve mostly been clinging on in the ‘nothing’ state.
Battling illness and chronic fatigue over a prolonged period had left me feeling extremely depleted of life. Three weeks ago I decided to re download the NHS couch to 5k running app in an attempt to improve my general health and well being.
I’m two weeks into the app, despite having it downloaded for  three weeks as I was hit with an unexpected vomiting bug in week two and no running for me for a week.
This morning I had it confirmed that I would be running in the royal parks half marathon in October this year, and I’ve spent the rest of the day in a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Not without good reason I might add. Currently I’m running for the sum total of 8mins spread across five 1.5min intervals with 2mins of walking, and somehow this has got to increase to running for 13.1miles, with a aiming for personal beat(easy to set one of these as I haven’t run this before 😂) of completing the run in any time under 2.5hrs, presupposing I can get my form and energy back.
So I’m sitting in the garden with the sun shining gloriously on this Tuesday April 29th, googling all things running and training, and wondering if the ‘rumblings in my tumblings’, as Pooh would say, are fear or excitement and settling on the very reasonable decision that it’s probably both.
Pray for me, the Lord knows I’m going to need all the prayers of support and strength I can get, and if you feel so moved maybe add some coinage in the donation pot, I need to raise a minimum target of £350 for the Stroke Assoc.
