I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2026.

There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

No survivor should have to face life after stroke without stroke support, providing consistent, tailored help on the long journey to recovery.

We work with the stroke community to ensure the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

I’m running the Great North Run in support of The Stroke Association, a charity that’s very close to my heart.

In April 2022, my wife suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage. Thankfully, she has made a strong recovery and has gone on to support The Stroke Association herself. Seeing the impact of their work first-hand is what inspired me to take on this challenge.

I’ve wanted to do something like this for a while, but after rupturing my Achilles in May 2024, completing this half marathon has become a personal milestone as well. Crossing the finish line will be a small win for me — and a much bigger win for a cause that supports so many people and families affected by stroke and brain injury.
