I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2025 as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2025.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

GNR 2025

Hi Squirrels,

I am excited (and slightly terrified) to share that I will be taking part in Great North Run 2025, a challenge I never imagined embracing, ask Tom. Seriously, six months ago I could not run 3k, let alone 21.1. I’m hoping the cakes and free pints carry me through!

I’m running this race for Stroke Association, a cause close to my heart. My nanna suffered from multiple strokes throughout her life, and sadly, the later ones led to her passing. She was a force of nature with a rather wicked sense of humour, this is why watching her slowly become less of her usual bubbly self left a lasting impact on me. She was the kind of person who could make any crowd laugh (and throw shade with love while doing so). I’m certain that after running a whole 21.1k, having a sweaty head and resembling a potato she will still be thinking ”I’ve seen better hair on a coconut”.

But in all seriousness, I’m doing this for her and for everyone affected by strokes. If you can, please sponsor me and support the Stroke Association in their incredible work. Every penny will go towards preventing strokes and helping those affected, so fewer people have to witness what myself and my family did.

Thank you so much for your support - on behalf of myself and Stroke Association.

Best wishes,

Megan
