TCS London Marathon 2025

I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke

I'm taking part in TCS London Marathon 2025 to support The Stroke Association in memory of my Nan, Anna, who passed away at the start of 2023 and my Grandad, Willie, who passed a few years earlier.

My Grandad, Willie, was an active man who loved sport throughout his life, he was a successful boxing champion in his early years.  As years went by, Willie loved to follow football and play golf.  Despite his active lifestyle, in his later years, he suffered several serious strokes that left him disabled and needing 24-hour care.  His much-loved wife, my Nan, Anna, devoted herself to caring for Willie 24/7 right up to his passing.

My Nan Anna was a talented dressmaker who left Dublin in the 1950’s and moved to London with my Grandad to start a new life. Anna was very popular and will always be remembered for her funny and mischievous personality. She was adored by a large family and friendship group.  Unfortunately, a few years back, Anna also suffered a serious stroke which had a huge impact on her life, however against the odds and after Doctors were convinced Anna wouldn’t walk again, with support she battled back and was able to walk with the aid of a stroller, which stunned the Doctors.

At the start of 2023 unfortunately Anna suffered a massive stroke and in true fashion, she battled for two weeks at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, London before finally passing, surrounded by her family by her side.

I am running the marathon in memory of both my Nan, Anna, and Grandad, Willie’s memories and to support and raise awareness of the Stroke Association who help to rebuild people's lives after a stroke and provide support for families.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year, that’s one stroke every 5 minutes. The Stroke Association rely on donations to provide vital services, ongoing preventative research, rehabilitation to help stroke survivors live fuller, happier lives

Any donations would be greatly appreciated and thank you for all the support!
