I joined #TeamStroke for the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2026.
There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Royal Parks Half Marathon.

I’ve decided to set myself the challenge of running a half marathon — but this isn’t about proving to myself that I can run 13.1 miles. I wanted to do something that would have a real purpose, and so I’ll be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon for the Stroke Association, a charity that is very close to my heart.
On 22nd December 2022, my Dad, Shaun, suffered a stroke.
Like so many strokes, it happened completely out of the blue. Unfortunately, by the time we were able to act, the damage had been done, and the effects of the stroke have been life-changing for him and for our family.
In the days and weeks that followed, there were conversations about care homes and the possibility that Dad may need full-time care. But despite all the odds, and through an incredible amount of determination, Shaun has continued to recover.
Today, Dad can walk with the assistance of a stick, drive, live independently and even book holidays for himself — things that at one point we weren’t sure would ever be possible.
His recovery has been nothing short of a miracle, but it’s also a testament to his determination and the incredible support he has received along the way.
The NHS, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapists, and the Stroke Association have all played an important role in helping Dad get to where he is today. Without these support networks, I genuinely don’t know whether his recovery would have been possible.
That’s why I’m incredibly proud — and a little nervous! — to be taking on the Royal Parks Half Marathon in Dad’s honour and raising money for the Stroke Association.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help support people and families affected by stroke and help provide the advice, support and services that made such a difference to ours.
