I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2026.

There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

No survivor should have to face life after stroke without stroke support, providing consistent, tailored help on the long journey to recovery. 

We work with the stroke community to ensure the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

The Reason I Chose Stroke Association

Monday 12th Jan
In 2025, my grandad suffered a stroke.

The man who taught me to kick my first football. The man who gave me my first job. The man who was always busy on his feet.

From the creation of a public remembrance garden in our home town, to the establishment of a community centre for the elderly in the area, my grandad has made invaluable contributions to society and he continues to do so.

Whilst having a stroke has taken away some of the ability he had previously, he is never beaten. His spirit is as strong as it ever was and as difficult as things can be, he is very much still himself. This man is my inspiration for starting my running journey and he is the reason I will be completing my first ever Great North Run.

Stroke Association UK pour money into new research and support systems that enable the treatment and care options for stroke patients to continue to grow. Seeing the treatment that my grandad has received and the support available for stroke patients gives me confidence that my efforts are going towards a very worthwhile cause.
